2018 Game Anticipation thread - what are you jonesin' for?

So one of my most anticipated games, with Terry Crews involved, got pushed back into next year.

I've been checking out the XB1-X list and realized there are more games for 2018 I anticipate than I thought.

Off the top of my head, these two stick out because I've missed playing versions of them.

Crackdown 3
Dynasty Warriors 9

More games that interest me:
Ori and the Will-o-the-Wisps
Darksiders III

Sea of Thieves looks really good too

I'll add to my list when I'm not at work and can dedicate time to this...

In the meantime, what games are YOU waiting for?

Yeah, most of what I'm looking forward to are delayed games, which probably makes sense since we know about them.

    State of Decay 2
    Crackdown 3
    Darksiders III
    Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
    Kingdom Come: Deliverance
    The Crew 2
    Far Cry 5
    MX vs ATV: All Out
    Industries of Titan
    Gravel
    Ashen
    Mulaka
    Into the Breach
    Below (maybe? who knows...)

And whatever else gets delayed or announced.

I can't think of a thing off the top of my head and looking at the titles listed here I am not seeing anything.

Maybe it will be the year I tackle my backlog! (Ha)

So if none of those spark your interest, what kind of games would?

I remembered a few more potential 2018 interests:

    Shadow of the Colossus
    God of War
    Monster Hunter World
    Spider-Man
    Metro Exodus
    Skull & Bones
    Extinction
    Biomutant

Seems like no one is capable of producing a really good "MMO-ARPG" hybrid. I'm talking something with the hack-and-slash combat of the Diablo series mixed with the world content (both instanced and more importantly, NOT instanced) of WoW. So many games that have come kind of close but none I'd say that really succeeded.

With that in mind, I'm hoping for both Lost Ark Online and Lineage Eternal next year. Chances are they won't be released or I'll end up disappointed, but one can always dream.

I would love, love, love Cyberpunk 2077 :), and Metroid Prime 4.

Well, they did announce Metroid Prime 4, so we can hope it comes out next year along with that unnamed Yoshi game.

I wouldn't hold your breath for Cyperpunk though.

Personally they lost me with the whole playing as a bad guy thing. I know it is silly of me but I just don't like it. I didn't play any of the GTA games because of it and unless the reviews show that I can be a good guy I will pass on this.

If they bring this second one to PC I'm sure I will check it out. But I'm not likely to buy it on consoles day 1.

To be honest, even though I got it really cheap (or free?) I never even played the first one. I know everybody says it's one of the best games of the last generation, but I just had so little interest in riding horses and shooting crappy guns that I never bothered.

Half the appeal of GTA and similar open world games to me is driving a variety of vehicles around and causing chaos. That doesn't really exist in the Red Dead world.

With the exception of Trevor, I wouldn't say any of the protagonists from GTA have been bad guys. They are mixed up in some bad things, it's true but almost all of them are striving to be as good as they can or get out of the hell they find themselves in. Hell, even Trevor has his own f'ed up morality that he strictly follows.

It depends on how you play the games, of course, but my characters never beat the shit out of the innocent for money, for example. They are certainly complicated characters, but I wouldn't write them off whole cloth and, more importantly, miss such important (and fun) pieces of video game history.

    • Well...

I'm sure there's other stuff that I'll end up buying in 2018, but that's all that comes to mind, to be honest.
