I was lucky enough to be invited out to Activision Studios to get some hands on time with the upcoming
Spider-Man 3 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS. (The game is also shipping for the PC, PSP, and PS2) How did it fare? Listen up True Believers:
To kick off the day, I sat down with the Playstation 3 version of Spider-Man 3. The change in graphic quality was immediately apparent, the city looking as crisp and clean as possible. I was told by one of the developers from Treyarch that the city had grown to three times the size of the previous game, expanding the vertical height to more than double. This will come in handy when trying to reach the Splat Master 2007 Achivement – hitting the pavement 25 times. In addition to this vertical scope increase, there is also a great deal more going on within the city. The number of vehicles hustling and bustling through the city streets has easily tripled, and the amount of detail present in areas like Time Square is far closer to the real thing than ever previously shown. Billboards fill the scene, and neon and stock tickers whipping through the building surfaces like ants. Hell, you can see the web pattern on the bottom of Spider-Man’s suit if that gives you any indication of the level of detail in this title.

In addition to the writeup and trailers, we also have brand new screenshots for the
Xbox 360, the first screenshots for the
Playstation 3 version,
Wii version, and some new screens for the
Nintendo DS. The game is set to hit shelves on May 4th, so we'll be getting our hands on for a full review very soon. Stay tuned!
