Recently Paul McErlean (Punisher) and I were able to attend the Oblivion Press Event hosted by Bethesda Software. Pete attended the session in New York while I attended the one in Chicago. We're happy to provide our impressions of Oblivion for the
PC and
Xbox 360. First off, here is
a small portion of Paul's article:
First came character creation. I spent about 15 minutes playing around with this. You can only change your head around, but there are a lot of changes you can make. Race, sex, hair, head structure, and more. I didn’t even mess with all the options, since there were so many. About the only thing that bothered me with this is that many of the sliders are linked, so moving one slider adjusts another one automatically. I much prefer being able to pick and adjust things individually, but it did make things go smoother. Your body is determined by your race and sex.
I started off in the now familiar dungeon, which did not have the object shadows enabled, as some people have been complaining about. You know what? It still looked great! While it would have been nice to have the object shadows in as an option for future technology, it really didn’t take much away from the game at all and while, as I said, I am a graphics whore, I still need a game beneath it if I plan on playing the game for more than an hour.
Also, we have my
Oblivion Special Edition TrendCast availble for download. It is about 17 minutes long and goes through my impressions of the game and some of the differences between the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Finally we have new screenshots for you of the
PC version and the
Xbox 360 version. After the Oblivion Press Event, I can see why people are pumped up for this game, and with good reason. Look for my written report on Oblivion to be posted on Monday.
