GT EA Sports / Gillette ContestHey sports fans, we've got a new contest for you this afternoon, sponsored by the folks at Gillette. Essentially, you'll square off in one of the big five EA Sports titles from this year (Madden NFL 09, NBA Live 09, NASCAR 09, FIFA Soccer 09, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09) on Xbox Live. By simply getting in on the action, you have a chance to win our two titles, but if you manage to do well in the games, you have a chance for the big prize.
Running to December 28th, there are qualifying rounds to help you show off your gaming skills. If you win, you'll jump in on the "Knock-out Round" from January 4th to January 11th 2009. Win that? Yea, EA and Gillette will be flying you out to a Worldwide competition in February of 2009 in Orlando Florida!
The tournaments are open to North America, Asia, and Europe, and winners will be selected from each of the three regions. Oh, not cool enough yet? Try this on. The winners will also get the chance to square off against the Gillette Champions: Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, Thierry Henry, Denny Hamlin, and Roger Federer!
Weekly winners can pick up a Gillette razor and a 3 month Live subscription, as well as a chance as a Gillette shave kit, a copy of EA’s FaceBreaker, a 12-month Gold subscription, and 1,600 MS Points. Oh, and in addition to being flown to Orlando, the finalists will get a shave kit, 3 EA Sports games, a 12-month Gold subscription, and 4,000 MS Points. Yea...it's that awesome.
Even if you don't have the skills to compete with the big dogs, shoot me a note that you are on the leaderboard (I don't care if you are dead last in the world) and you'll automatically be entered for a chance to win a copy of
Tiger Woods 09 or EA Soccer 09 for the Xbox 360. Winners will be announced around January 1st after the first round of qualifiers. Good luck Gaming Trend readers! Jump in the

All beta testers for NXE can get the update now.Major Nelson announced a scant few hours ago that
all valid signups for the New Xbox Experience (NXE) beta test are able to download it now rather than waiting until November 19, 2008. Want more? Here's what he has to say:
Sign up for the preview? You're in!
Instead of adding another 10,000 people to the preview program like we did last week, we've decided to do something a little different: everyone who successfully applied to the preview program (and had a valid console ID) will be getting the New Xbox Experience sometime within the next few hours. That’s right…we’re hooking everyone else up with NXE a bit early. If you signed up and are not prompted, that means you did not enter your console ID properly and you'll have to wait until Wednesday.
Don’t worry, it’s almost here.
Thanks again for your overwhelming interest in the program.
So if you signed up with the right info, you should be able to download the update now and miss the rush.

Target and Shaun White SnowboardingThere's a special edition of
Shaun White Snowboarding available to Target shoppers.
The special Target edition of the game, available on Xbox 360®, PLAYSTATION®3 and Wii™, will have exclusive extended content and features that consumers won’t be able to find anywhere else, including the Target Mountain – an entire mountain environment found only in the Target exclusive edition. Gamers will also be able to take advantage of exclusive jibs, additional scenes and more characters. Additionally, players will be able to cozy up in the game’s virtual version of the Target Chalet, the real-life mountainside home where Shaun and his fellow Target athletes hang out with friends and family at the annual Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado. Among other exclusive features, the Target Chalet is the only indoor environment anywhere in the game.

New ReviewsWe have a bunch of new reviews up for you to take a look at.
The first one up is for Zoids Assault. You can
read it here. Apparantly the Zoids franchise has a market. But I doubt it will get any bigger after this game.
The next review is for Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant for the DS. Check it
out here. It looks like another one to avoid.
Perhaps the brightest game we have for you today is King's Bounty for the PC.
The review is really positive and it is a game that many people may pass over simply because it hasn't recieve any hype at all. Check out the review to see if this one is for you.
Finally, we have a review for the fourth episode in the Strong Bad series. You can
read it here. The game is fun and if you liked the previous episodes then you should like Dangeresque 3.

Wii-kly Update November 17, 2008This week's
Wii-kly update is rather full, with both the Virutal Console and WiiWare getting two new games each. If you have been gaming for a while, this one might bring back memories:
SPACE INVADERS: The Original Game (Super NES, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Experience one of gaming's iconic franchises in this perfect rendition of the arcade classic. Take aim at the field of invaders relentlessly marching toward you. Move quickly but carefully, using the barriers for protection as you avoid missiles fired by the aliens and try to destroy all of them before they reach the bottom of the screen. Further enhance the nostalgia by choosing from several modes that simulate different versions of the arcade game (such as upright cabinet or black-and-white). Or if you want to prove your superior skills to a friend, try the new VS mode and see who can stop the alien menace the quickest. All in all, it's pure gaming at its best, now with no quarters required.
Another Strong Bad game as well as Target Toss Pro: Bags are on WiiWare, and the other Virtual Console game is Forgotten Worlds for the Sega Genesis (which can be found on the
Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2 and PSP). Be sure to check out the full Press Release, as it might be the only time you see Nintendo release a Press Release with the word Cornhole in it.

Wii Music Playing in MallsSometimes you just can't make these things up. Nintendo
announced that street performers will be in malls this weekend playing
Wii Music.
Now through the end of the month, the family trio of music-makers will entertain shoppers by turning the Wii console into a musical instrument with Wii Music, the new music game from Nintendo. Wii Music contains more than 50 songs and lets players use more than 60 different instruments to make their music, from melodic steel drums to soaring trumpets. To play, players simply use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to make the same motions they would with a real instrument: Strum a guitar or pound the keys of a piano. The game challenges players to transform improvised notes into great music, while enabling the freedom to customize your song, instrument, genre, tempo and stage.
I wonder if it will be as "entertaining" as the Nintendo employees playing Wii Music at the E3 Press Conference.

Majesty 2 Dev DiaryA new developer diary has been posted for the upcoming fantasy kingdom sim,
Majesty 2:
Alexey Kozyrev writes “Each class has its own attitude towards life. For example, the Thieves want money, but that motivation is compensated by a high level of cowardice. They are the first to look for a reward, but will also be the first to desert in the battlefield. A hero constantly estimates danger around him or her, compares it to his or her characteristics, health and courage, and then decides whether or not it is necessary to run away.”
I have some really high hopes for this one. If they can capture even a fraction of the appeal of the first game, I'll be thrilled. You can check ou the

Wheel of Time gamesExcellent news for fans of Robert Jordan's
Wheel of Time series. Red Eagle Entertainment has announced plans for both a movie and multi-platform games (including an MMORPG) based on the bestselling books.
A line of stand-alone Wheel of Time games is planned for release on all major videogame platforms, including consoles, personal computers, handheld systems and wireless devices. In addition, Red Eagle will launch and operate a massively multiplayer online role-playing game encompassing the themes, characters and world of the Wheel of Time novels.
"I am confident in Red Eagle Games' ability to capture the timeless appeal of The Wheel of Time story as they adapt its characters and themes into this new electronic medium," Rigney said. "I expect fans of the series will be delighted by these new interactive additions to the Wheel of Time universe."
The last Wheel of Time outing on PC was a fun FPS, and let's hope they can captures some of the same magic this time around. There was no indication of which consoles will be receiving the games, but you can read a few additional details in the
